William Thomas “W.T.” May, age 83, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Born in Franklin County on April 16, 1928, he was the son of the late John Bertice May and Ruth Savage May.
W.T was a police officer with the City of Rocky Mount from 1956 to 1987. He was one of the first motorcycle patrolman for the city and did so for 26 years.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 43 years, Phyllis Bone May; two brothers, Bryce May of Belhaven NC and Gerald May of Washington NC; three nieces and one nephew; and three great-nieces and three great-nephews.
A service to remember W.T. will be held at 11:00am Friday, March 02, 2012 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Roberson officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunset Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 3732 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount NC 27804.

I served with W.T. from 1977 until his retirement from RMPD, I will always have fond memories of him, especially of his fish fries while off duty. Rest in peace Officer May. Job well done.
