Roger Dale Turner

April 5, 1950 ~ March 28, 2016

Rocky Mount - Roger Dale Turner, age 65, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016. Born in Nash County, NC on April 5, 1950, he was the son of the late James Turner and Veda Veronia Edwards Turner. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Milton Turner. A friend to all he welcomed, Roger was employed with Food Lion for over 31 years, many of those years spent as the Produce Manager until he semi-retired just recently and remained working in the produce department. His genuine personality was admired by many, bested only by his generosity to those he loved. Never having met a stranger and always willing to offer a helping hand, he always placed others before himself. In his spare moments, Roger enjoyed attending car shows both near and far, showing his 1923 Ford T-Bucket, an antique in which he won many trophies. A loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, a brother, and friend to many, he will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 26 years, Billie Harrell Turner; his two sons, Billy Phillips and his wife, Melissa, of Noblesville, IN and Craig Phillips and his wife, Kay, of Henderson; and his daughter, Dawn Turner of Nashville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Courtney Outlaw, Ashley Phillips, and Jessie Turner; and two brothers, James Turner, Jr. of Rocky Mount and Carlton Turner of Maxton. A Funeral Service will be held the evening of Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Friends are welcome to visit with the family one hour prior to the service beginning at 6:00 PM. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Roger's name to Edgecombe-Nash Humane Society, P. O. 5. Roger loved life and cherished every moment of it. The fact that he worked for Food Lion for over 30 years shows how loyal of a person that he was. That loyalty was also shown by how much he loved his wife. I don’t believe I ever had a personal conversation with Roger that didn’t involve him bringing up Mrs. Billie. He absolutely loved and adored her! He will be greatly missed.
