POSTPONED-NEW SVC DETAILS:
Monday evening, February 4, 2019, was a time of celebration for Milton Culpepper entering heaven to reunite with so many loved ones. Born on July 25, 1929, Milton was one of eleven children of the late Harvey and Etta Hackney Culpepper and Mable Parker Culpepper. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brothers Jackson, Harvey, Jr. and Vernon Culpepper; sisters Lula Thomas and Merle Taylor; and wife and mother to his two children, Susan Valentine Culpepper.
Milton's life was one of service to his Country, his Family, and his Community. After serving in Germany during World War II, he returned home and joined the Farmville Police Department as a motorcycle cop. Although his father had served on the RM police force, he soon discovered that just wasn't the career for him. Thus began Milton's career at Carolina Office Equipment Company, where he worked until his retirement. Everyone appreciated his expertise, whether purchasing office furnishings or simply school supplies…not just because of his knowledge, but because of his kindness not to mention his famous bow tie! Milton was a charter member of the Rocky Mount Luncheon Lions Club and once held the position of Exalted Ruler during his years in the Rocky Mount Elks Lodge. He dedicated hundreds of volunteer hours to ensure that those who could not afford glasses would receive them and also raised funds to help in other ways. His commitment to the service of his community was a priority which he shared with us all. His generosity was done from the heart, never expecting anything in return. Milton also took great pride in his service to Englewood United Methodist Church, where he worshipped for more than 50 years. (He would never share the secret recipe for those awesome peanuts!) Without a doubt, when the heavenly gates opened, Milton was greeted by every dog and cat he ever loved. Among the jumping, barking, and tail wagging, surely there was an abundance of dog biscuits shared with all. During his neighborhood strolls, Milton could be seen sharing treats and loving the pets that greeted him thus he became known as the ‘Dog Man'. One of his many shared wisdoms, "Dogs are a good judge of character, so pay attention to your dog. If your dog doesn't like somebody, then listen to the dog." One of Milton's greatest joys was to simply surprise young children by giving them a gold dollar coin. What an incredible and kind man the world has lost such a true gentleman. Those of us who loved him were given the greatest blessing of all just to have him in our lives.
Milton leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 25 years, Lucille Locke Culpepper of Rocky Mount; son Milton Culpepper, Jr. (Sheila) of Rocky Mount and daughter Virginia Culpepper Maddox (Bruce) of Atlantic Beach, NC. He was lovingly known as "Pa" by his grandchildren Justin Culpepper of Rocky Mount, Lillie Wolfe (Derek) of Four Oaks, and Bruce Maddox, Jr. (Heather) of Conway, SC. Stepchildren J.R. Locke (Katie), Stuart Locke (Cheryl) of Enfield, and David Locke of Charlotte.
In addition, Milton is also survived by sisters Amie Hunt of Raleigh, Sheila Burnett of Spartanburg, SC, Jeanette Culpepper of Rocky Mount; brothers Billy Culpepper of Savannah, Georgia and Dennis Culpepper (Brenda) of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Alva Culpepper of Raleigh; a host of loving nieces and nephews; and friends too many to count.

Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor Terry Williams officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service in the Englewood United Methodist Church Narthex.

We are so sorry to learn of Mr Culpepper’s passing. The last time we saw him was in foyer of Veterans Clinic in Greenville. He was a fine gentlemen. We are praying for Mrs Culpepper and Milton (Son) & Shelia & their Son & daughter. May God bless & comfort you during this time and the months to come. Sincerely, Rick & Doris Godwin
I worked as a sales representative under Milton for 35 years. He was the best boss a person could ask for. He was even a better person. If I had a problem he always had time for me. Milton being head of the supply and furniture division made COECO one of the most successful office suppliers in the State. He will be missed by me and all who knew him as the best mentor you could ever ask for. I pray GOD will comfort his family as only he can, as Milton has moved on to a perfect world.
Mr Culpepper was a wonderful supporter of law enforcement and fire personnel and supported me personally over the years at the Rocky Mount Police Department. He was kind and devoted his life to helping others through community service. Great man and devoted public servant. I offer my thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Know that many people cherished his friendship over the years. He will be missed. Chief Laura Fahnestock Fuquay-Varina Police Department
