Marvin Lee Coats

Rocky Mount - Marvin Lee Coats, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Born in Nash County, NC on September 1, 1937, he was the son of the late John Crosson Coats and Amanda Dudley Coats. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Danny Carter. Marvin retired with 29 years of service with The Great Atlantic Pacific Tea Company. Marvin also served 20 years as a Rocky Mount Auxiliary Policeman and 14 years in the National Guard. He also was a member of the Rocky Mount Chapter of the Jaycees. A man of great faith, he was a member of Marvin Methodist Church serving on various committees. He was an avid PEPSI collector and he also loved Rocky Mount Gryphon Baseball. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Marvin leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Carole Coats; his daughters, Debbie Pearce and husband, Clarence, of Rocky Mount; and Phyllis Ellen Coats of Rocky Mount; his sons, Robbie Coats and wife, Gusty, of Rocky Mount; and Eddie Coats and wife, Polly, of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Magan Coats; Amanda Coats; Lindsey Pearce; Blair Coats; Catherine Coats; Kirby Coats; and Logan Pearce; and two great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Saxon; brother, John C. Coats of Rocky Mount; close friends, Grey and Kathy Wilson; and many other special friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Rev. Patrick Sinclair and Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, April 29, 2016 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services.   6. Carol and Family, What a shock I got when I found out about Marvin. I thought about you this morning and thinking about Riverside. I have never met any nicer family than yours. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Marvin was a great man. You and your family are in my prayers. I know God has his loving arms around each one you now and the days to come. God will give you strength that you don’t even know you have. Marvin is now in the arms of our Jesus Christ Lord and Savior looking down smiling.   11. When Pat and I moved to Rocky Mount in 1995 we moved beside Robbie. Every time their family got together at Robbie’s or at any of the other children’s home they were all together. The entire family was together and that is the way this family is, together. That can only be because of their up bringing from Marvin and Carole. They all have become our dear friends and we love all of you. Our tears are of joy of what Marvin Leaves behind. A beautiful family

  13. Mr. Coats mom kept me and my brother for my mom, I was able to meet Mr. Coats and his family thru this. A friendly smile and kind words are what I remember most, great family to know. So sorry for your loss, but heaven is his reward.
