Johnnie Thomas "J.T." Raper, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 26, 2013. A native of Nash County, he was the son of the late Johnnie Stanford Raper and Octavia Stancil Raper. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Bryant Raper and sisters, Eunice Raper Newton and Evelyn Raper King.
A retired tobacco buyer, J.T. was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He leaves behind his son, Gregg Raper (Lori); daughter, Pam Jenkins (Wayne); grandchildren, Thomas Raper (Kristin), Taylor Raper (Jessica), Christopher Jenkins (Jennifer) and Tyler Jenkins (Ashley Pendergrass); and great-grandchildren, Sophia Raper, Thomas Mack Raper, Caleb Raper, Kelsey Jenkins, Carter Jenkins and Brayden Jenkins. He is also survived by sister, Edna Raper Powell; brother, Kenneth Raper (Linda); sister-in-law, Helen Price Raper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives 7:00pm to 8:30pm Monday, October 28, 2013 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A service to remember J.T. will be held at 3:00pm Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jacky Raper officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 483, Rocky Mount NC 27802.

My sincere condolence to the Raper family for your loss! During this time of sorrow, how wonderful it is meditate on Jehovah promises from his word the Bible! 1 Cor.1526 helps us appreciate that the ultimate enemy of mankind, death, will be done away with! What about being able to see our dead loved ones again John 528, 29-Jesus stated that there is going to be a resurrction! May y’all be comforted by the promises of Jehovah God!
