They were lifelong residents of the family farm near Whitakers, NC, and enjoyed teaching dance to their friends at many wonderful gatherings in the community. Mr. Bryan graduated high school from the Darlington School of Rome Georgia, and attended North Carolina State College where he studied Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. He returned to the family farm in 1950 and, through his continuing association with the College was instrumental in the development of the Polled Dorset Sheep breed in 1956, of which he was the first private breeder in the United States. He was a skilled and principled hunter and an expert tracker and outdoorsman. Mr. Bryan was a member of the Whitakers Barbeque Club for over 50 years, where he served as President and enjoyed the fellowship of his many friends each Thursday during the summer. Mr. Bryan was a Master Mason and a devoted member of the Whitakers United Methodist Church. During their marriage, Mrs. Bryan developed Multiple Sclerosis. Mr. Bryans steadfast devotion to Peggy during her long illness was a testament to his love for her, and his friends and loved ones drew inspiration from his tender compassion and abiding care for her until her death. She remained his one true love until he joined her in heaven. Mr. Bryan was widely known for his kindness and grace, as well as his love for his family and service to his friends and neighbors. He was a gentleman and a Christian of the highest order.
