Harold “John” Michaletz, II

ROCKY MOUNT - Harold "John" Michaletz, II, age 59, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022. He was born in Cumberland County, NC on January 29, 1963. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Marie Lewis Michaletz; his sister, Kimberly Renee' Michaletz; and his grandparents. John was born in Fort Bragg, NC. This is where he started his so-called "military career", as a "military brat". He graduated high school in Fort Sam, Houston, TX and he basically called Texas his home state. John was very active in playing little league baseball and football. Football was his favorite, as he kept his mother wondering what his crazy number was when he played football. John was interested in going to college, but his father was scheduled to go overseas to Germany. They decided to retire from the military and moved to Rocky Mount. College was out because John loved to enjoy himself, as college was secondary. John enjoyed people, and always with the help from sister, Kim, they would be prepared to play a prank on someone. He loved elderly people and he would give you his last dollar, insuring you were included in the activity. John was employed at Nash UNC Health Care basically all of his adult life. He had some periods of time working at other facilities, but basically always employed by UNC Hospital Systems. John enjoyed singing in the church chorus and in local theatrical productions. He was basically a "people" person who enjoyed whatever he did. John was also an "electronics guy", good utilizing and set-up of computers and systems. He was always having to get his parents' electronic problems back in proper order. John is survived by his father, Harold "Mike" Michaletz; his aunts and uncles, Jimmie Lewis (Eppie), Nancy Pridgen, Gene Lewis, John Lewis (Becky), Ray Lewis (Ida), Leland Michaletz (Justine); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends throughout the military community; and special friend, Jennifer. A Funeral Service to celebrate John's life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor Luke Lunceford and Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery. A visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in First Baptist Church Family Ministry Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John's memory to First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or to your favorite charity.   2. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of John. I worked with John at Nash UNC. He was always so nice and kind. He always went out of his way to help anyone that need his help. He was also a happy and jolly person. You are certainly in my prayers. May God bless each one now and the days to come.

  5. I am truly sorry for the loss of such a sweet man. I met John through my daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Steve Pinyan. He was always happy, joking and respectful. When I met him, he was in a theatrical production in Nashville, NC. with Steve. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and did an excellent job. Every time I saw him afterwards, he called me Ms. Shirley . One of his bylines when someone complained was you need to get it out of your circle. I pray John has everything out of his circle and will Rest In Peace. Love, Ms. Shirley

  7. I am so heart broken with John’s passing. He was a dear friend and I loved him dearly. I got to know John a long time ago when he worked at Smiths Red and White. My prayers are with his family. John will be missed by alot of people

  8. John was one of the first people I met when I started in the ED. He was funny, kind and more than willing to help out a newby. I will miss our conversations. My heart goes out to his family.

  11. One of the first people I got to know when I began working at Nash UNC so welcoming and friendly always made me laugh. I will miss you my friend, praying for the family.

  12. All of our family loved Big John, as we called him. We will not be able to attend his funeral due to being out of town. Michael had surgery yesterday, so he and Jamie won’t be able to attend either. When we were at First Baptist, your family was so dear to us. Michael and John were such good friends.   13. Mike, I was so sorry to learn about John’s death. He was one of the nicest people to work with and was SO very helpful to me when were putting in those computers. But, even more, when I had family in the ER, he was a kind word and helping hand. He will be missed!! Joan Sykes

  17. John was a wonderful person, I met him at church when he and my husband at the time were doing the drama performances at First Baptist Church in 1985. He was a great performer and loved making people happy and was always joking. He was also a coworker at the hospital for many years. He will certainly be missed. Rest in peace John.
