Cecil Harold “Hal” Dorton

ROCKY MOUNT - Cecil Harold "Hal" Dorton, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Born in Lee County, VA on August 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Columbus C. Dorton and Eurice Nelson Dorton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Jean Leonard Dorton; his brother, Billy Dorton; and his sisters, Janet King, Ann Garrett, Hazel Lewis, and Geraldine Dorton. A veteran of the US Army, Hal retired after 40 years of dedicated service in the dairy industry and was known for his strong work ethics and dedication. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend to many, "Pops" will be forever remembered and will never be forgotten. Hal is survived by his children, Jennifer Atkinson and Jim Benton; his grandchildren, Lindsey Atkinson and John Thomas; his dear friend, Tim Myers and wife Sharon; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Brenda Tice. A Celebration of Hal's Life will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 2:30 PM at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Terry Williams officiating.   5. I served with a Lt Cecil Dorton in 1969 with the 3rd Infantry division. Weeere stationed in shweinfurt, Germany.He helped me out in a personal matter that shaped my life.
