Caroline Hunton High

ROCKY MOUNT – Caroline Hunton High, age 86, died on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.  Born in Richmond, VA on October 10, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Eppa Hunton, IV and Caroline Homassell Marye Hunton.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Hardy High.

Caroline shared nearly 60 years of marriage with her beloved husband, John.  A graduate of St. Timothy’s School in Maryland, she attended Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia, and later graduated from the School of Radiology at the Medical College of Virginia.  She served on the board of Tri-County Industries and was its president in 1976.  Caroline was also a member of the Junior Guild of Rocky Mount and the Church of the Good Shepherd.  She treasured her “Lunch Bunch,” a group of ladies whose friendship meant so much to her.  John, her family, and her friends were at the heart of her life.

Caroline loved spending time at her cottage in Nags Head with family and friends.  She and John enjoyed traveling extensively aboard their boat, High Time, with many of their other boating friends.

Caroline is survived by her sons, John Hardy High, Jr. and wife, Gayle, and Robert Morton High and wife, Mary; her grandchildren, Robert Morton High, Jr. and wife, Kacey, John Hardy High, III and Julia Hunton High; her brother, Eppa Hunton; her sister, Virginia Hunton Totten; her three nieces; and her two nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Caroline’s life will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Good Shepherd, 231 N. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC  27804 with Rev. Becky Carpenter officiating.  A Committal Service with entombment will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery.  A Reception will follow the committal service at Benvenue County Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Caroline’s memory to The Church of Good Shepherd, 231 N. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC  27804.
