ROCKY MOUNT – E. Norman Davis, age 87, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026.  Born in Edgecombe County, NC on March 17, 1939, he was the son of the late Edgar Battle Davis and Ethel Creekmore Davis.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Mark Ward Davis; his brother, John Robert Davis; and his sister, Barbara Jean Davis Worell.

Norman served in the military with the United States Coast Guard.  He was a firefighter with the Rocky Mount Fire Department and worked as the chief building inspector for the City of Rocky Mount.  Norman owned and operated E. Norman Davis & Son, Inc. Real Estate and Construction.  He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Norman was a family man, and extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He loved nothing better than spending time with his family and his dear friends.   A loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dear friend to many, Norman will be forever missed and never forgotten.

Norman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vivian Landen Davis; his son, Norman Scott Davis (Ashley); his grandsons, Norman Robert Davis (Caitlin), Jonathan Colby Davis (Hilary), and Alston Gray Davis (Josie); and his great-grandchildren, Christopher Scott Davis, Oliver Mark Davis, Ella Ruth Davis, Leola Annette Davis, Elijah Norman Davis, and Mila Katherine Davis.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Norman’s life will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Englewood Baptist Church, 1350 S. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC  27804.  A visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of Englewood Baptist Church.

Burial will be private.

  4. IT IS SO HARD TO CELEBRATE AND BE SAD AT THE SAME TIME. I CELEBRATE NORMAN”S FREEDOM AND AM SAD FOR VIVIAN, THE DAVIS FAMILY AND ALL HIS MANY FRIENDS. HE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY AS HE HAS BLESS MANY.

Mr Norman I was with you for 3 years and you were the highlight of my day..the first thing after speaking to me and as I got ready to give you your medicine and do ur eye drops you would say Modean what in the world you got on..I would tell you the fragrance you would always tell me how good I smelled..I miss you and will forever keep you in my heart..I’m so sorry for Mrs Vivian to have to live without you..you were a blessing to me and so many others in your lifetime and you will greatly be missed.. forever love..your Modean..

  9. So sorry Vivian Scott and family. He was a dear soul and would give you the shirt off his back. Since we worked in the same building, he would sometime come down the hall and sing to me. I have missed that a lot in the last couple years. He and Kenny would talk business dogs hunting and fishing He will truly truly be missed!!!!

  22. My dear sweet Vivian, I am hurting inside for you . Norman is already with the Lord and is at complete peace. My words of comfort are for you! We can’t know how it really feels to lose your spouse until you experience it. It leaves a big empty hole inside. No coffee together in the early morning sunshine. The time you spent together on the deck in the cool evenings will bring memories and tears, but they will be happy tears at times when you re-live precious moments in your mind.
    I am so I got to meet you and Norman. We had fun times and he still had so many things he wanted to do in spite of his health, with you and friends. The last thing he said to me was we are going gambling soon, be ready…
    I love you Vivian, please reach out if you need me to be with you, to listen, to cry with you or laugh.

  25. My wife and I are forever grateful for Norman Davis entering our lives. As a young couple he gave us a chance when it looked like no one else would. With a handshake he helped my wife and I into our first home. Fast forward to 2013 and again we were in the market for a home,I called Mr. Davis. In no time we were in the very home we live in today. Over the years he would always call and check on me and offer encouraging advice. Mr. Davis was a great man and even better friend. We were all blessed to know him and thank GOD for sharing him with us.
