Hannah Dewey Bell Diedrick

Rocky Mount – It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Hannah Bell Diedrick; a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on July 7, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on May 15, 1940, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to Donald and Bessie Bell, both of whom preceded her in death. Hannah’s life was a testament to love, creativity, and service.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Lawrence Gilyard Diedrick, with whom she shared a beautiful life since their marriage on November 23, 1962, in Goldsboro, NC. Together, they built a family grounded in love and shared values. She was also preceded in death by her brother Langhorne Bell.

A proud alumna of Goldsboro High School, Hannah graduated in 1958, before advancing to St. Mary’s Junior College, where she completed her studies in 1960. She then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1962, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning and growth.

Hannah was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount, where her faith and dedication shone brightly. She was also a long-time member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, embodying a spirit of community and historical preservation.

Her creativity was a hallmark of her life. Hannah’s artistic talents were evident in the exquisite wedding and birthday cakes she crafted, bringing joy and beauty to every celebration. An avid needle pointer, she lovingly created and stitched an array of needlepoint rugs, pillows, purses, and necklaces, leaving behind tangible memories of her artistry and passion.

Hannah’s legacy continues through her surviving family: her loving daughters, Ann D. Dill (Tommy) and Betsy D. McLean; her treasured grandchildren, Miller McLean, Griffen McLean, and Thomas Dill; her beloved twin sister, Webber Bell Paxton; her devoted brothers, Nereus Donald Bell and Joe Bell (Lyn); her sister-in-law, Faye Bell; her dear nieces and nephews, Coalter Paxton (Caroline), Elizabeth P. Black, Allison Bell, Sandra Braswell (Brandon), and Parker Bell (Courtney); along with many other nieces, nephews, extended family, and dearest friends.

A Celebration of Life Service to celebrate Hannah’s life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 153 N. Church St, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Pastors Jacob Kennedy and Ally Pexa officiating.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the family home, 301 Gravely Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount, 153 N. Church Street Rocky Mount, NC 27804, or to The Service League of Greenville, Inc., PO Box 30452, Greenville, NC 27833.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of The Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice for their unwavering support and care during Hannah’s final days.

Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in the memories of Hannah’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and community.  She leaves behind a legacy of creativity, faith, and love that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with those who have gone before her.
