Jeffrey Luper Barnhill, 60, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, peacefully met his Creator on May 31, 2026.
Born on December 24, 1965, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Jeffrey lived a life defined not by words, but by the deep and lasting impact he had on everyone who knew him. As a special needs individual who was never able to speak, Jeffrey communicated through his joyful presence, warm spirit, and the love he shared so freely with those around him. Lovingly known as “Jeebo”, Jeff was cheerful and kind and never met a stranger. He especially loved music and would often dance, clap, and express pure happiness. In his struggle to be born, Jeff suffered a brain injury that resulted in lifelong developmental disabilities.
He is survived by his parents, Mike Barnhill Sr. and Carol Barnhill; his siblings, Mike Barnhill Jr. and Marion Barnhill; and his loving extended family, including his nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Stanton (Billy Stanton) and their child William; Emma Dare Butterworth (Jack Butterworth) and their child JB; Michael Barnhill III (Emily Barnhill); JR Grizer; and Carol Grace Grizer. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
Jeffrey will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of music, and the joy he brought simply by being himself. His life was a gift to those who knew him, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all who were blessed to encounter him.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Richard Gurganus officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
