Joy Dorel Hultgren

CASTALIA – Joy Dorel Hultgren, age 54, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026.  She was born in New Haven County, CT on December 21, 1971.  Joy was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Louise MacBrien Hultgren; and her sister-in-law, Katrina “Kat” Louise Easterday Hultgren.

Joy devoted over 20 years of her life working for the state, carrying out her responsibilities with dedication and care.  Outside of her work, she found deep joy in the simple and meaningful things, she had a special love for animals, especially horses and dogs, and even spent time as a certified dog trainer, something she truly enjoyed.  Joy loved music and could often be found attending concerts, as well as spending time outdoors hiking and taking in God’s creation.  She had a particular fondness for hummingbirds, faithfully caring for the many that gathered around her home. Above all, Joy treasured her family; they were the center of her world, and she loved them deeply.

Joy is survived by her father, Robert “Bob” Walter Hultgren, Jr.; her brothers, Christopher “Chris” Lee Hultgren, Sr. (Jeanetta) and James “Jim” Robert Hultgren (Tyosha) ; her nieces and nephews, Christopher Lee Hultgren, Jr. (Tricia), Brittney Lynn Hultgren (Austin), Crystina Pierce, and Justin Pierce; and her great-nieces, Leanne Rodriguez and Sophia Louise Hultgren.

A Private Celebration of Joy’s Life will be held at a later date.
