NASHVILLE – Glenda Ellen Mizelle Surles, age 60, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Born in Chowan County, NC on July 22, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Gussie Wayne Mizelle and Ellen Ruth Smithwick Mizelle.

Blessed with a contagious personality and deep love for her family, Glenda cherished her son, Joshua, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s soccer games and was their biggest fan. Glenda worked for Nash County Social Services for over 15 years and enjoyed working to help her community. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many, Glenda will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Glenda is survived by her husband, John Andrew “Andy” Surles; her son, Joshua Peele (Amber); her step-son, Allen Jordan; her grandchildren, Rosie and Grace Peele and A.J., Suzanne, and Michael Jordan; her great-grandchildren, Oakland and Lakeland Jordan; her sisters, Susan Annette Mizelle Sherrod (Marty) and Lori Anne Mizelle Earls; her brother, Jeffrey “Jeff” Wayne Mizelle (Lori); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.

A Special Gathering of Family and Friends to celebrate Glenda’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
