Carmen Elizabeth Poland

Rocky Mount – Carmen Elizabeth Poland, age 24, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026.  Born in Nash County, NC on September 10, 2001, she along with her sister, Lilly, was tragically taken far too soon, yet the impact she left behind is everlasting.  She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Hugh Horn Battle, III; her paternal grandfather, James Elvin Poland; and her uncle, William Baysdon.

A devoted and loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, and dearest friend to many, Carmen will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Carmen is survived by her mother, Melissa Paige Battle; her father, Paul E. Poland; her maternal grandmother, Kathy Kay McDaniel (Ivan “Pops”); her paternal grandmother, Paula Wooten Poland; her sisters, Kenzly Piatt and Courtney Poland; her brothers, Landon Piatt and Cody Poland; her uncle, Mark Gorham, Jr. (Briana); her aunt, Valarie Lawerance; her cousin, Montana Gorham; and many other extended family members and dearest friends.

A joint Celebration of Life Service to celebrate Carmen and Lilly’s lives will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.  Visitation with the family will be following the service until 4:00 PM in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
