Ruby Marks Snowden

August 20, 1934 ~ February 26, 2026

Born in: Edgecombe County, NC
Resided in: Enfield, NC

ENFIELD – Ruby Marks Snowden, age 91, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026.  Born in Edgecombe County, NC on August 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Herman Edward “Monk” Marks and Faustine “Tine” Watkins Marks.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William “Bill” Douglas Snowden; and her sisters, Maxine Marks Dixon and Ellise Marks Garris.

Ruby was a devoted woman of faith who loved the Lord and faithfully attended Gethsemane Baptist Church in Whitakers alongside her beloved husband, Bill, until his passing.  She retired after more than 20 years of dedicated service with Abbott Laboratories, though she wasn’t gone long before returning part-time, proof of her strong work ethic and love for staying active.  Ruby found joy in life’s simple, beautiful moments: sitting on the front porch, watching the birds, especially hummingbirds: gathering at the feeders she made sure were maintained outside her window.  She was an avid reader and cherished her annual trips to the mountains in her younger years.  At home, the television was almost always tuned to the ION channel, and she was perfectly content that way.  Whether it was an old western or something new, she simply enjoyed having it on while spending time with her cherished pets, Prissy and Lucy.  Her life reflected a quiet faith and a heart that found joy in simple, everyday moments.

Ruby is survived by her son, Jerry Roberson and wife, Melissa, of Nashville; her daughters, Gail Hayner and husband, Terry, of Fayetteville, and Kippa Hladky and husband, Randy, of Darlington, SC; her grandchildren, Sammy Fields (Jennifer) and Austin Hart; her great-grandson, William “Will” Paul Fields; and her niece and three nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Ruby’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Keith Griffin officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Whitakers Cemetery in Whitakers.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
