Madison Franklin "Frank" Edwards

March 16, 1935 ~ January 9, 2026

Born in: Nash County, NC
Resided in: Rocky Mount, NC

Rocky Mount – Madison Franklin “Frank” Edwards, age 90, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026.  Born in Nash County, NC on March 16, 1935, he was the son of the late Willie Littleton Edwards and Stella Joyner Edwards.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bradley Edwards, Wilbur Edwards, Harold Edwards, and Fred Edwards; and his sister, Zelma Edwards Powell.

After graduating from Cooper’s School in Nash County, Frank served in the U.S. Army in Korea, with Carol as his pen pal. Following his discharge, he studied printing at Chowan College. He and Carol married and moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where Frank worked for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. He later returned to Rocky Mount, becoming first a partial, then full owner of Walker-Ross Printing Company.  Through Walker-Ross Printing, Frank built a respected business and extended his leadership through active involvement with the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce, the Printing Industry of the Carolinas, and Chowan College. He was known for his integrity, generosity, and genuine care for his employees. He also took on numerous civic projects to help make Rocky Mount a better place to live, including the revitalization of City Lake.

Frank found joy fishing along the North Carolina coast in his boat, playing golf, cheering for the Wolfpack in his red blazer, snowmobiling in Wisconsin, and traveling domestically and internationally with Carol, Gina, and friends. In retirement, he traveled to Honduras on mission trips, and he and Carol drove to Alaska twice, treasuring the people and places they encountered. He was always proud to have Carol by his side.

A long-time, devoted member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, Frank lived a life firmly rooted in faith. Even while facing Parkinson’s disease, he remained peaceful and resilient.  A loving and dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle, and good friend to many, Frank will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Frank is survived by his wife, Carol Davis Edwards; his daughter, Gina Edwards and her fiancé, Tim Saltuklaroglu; his sister, Judith Edwards Nicholson; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends.

Guestbook

  1. Frank was a great person and boss at Walker Ross. Sorry to hear about his passing. Prayers for the family 🙏

  2. Worked for Mr. Edwards when Walker-Ross was on Atlantic Ave. He was a awesome boss and at times fun as well. Going to miss him. Prayers for Mrs. Carol and the family and friends. Frank will be greatly missed.

  3. My heart is saddened to hear this news. Such a wonderful man who cared deeply for his employees at Walker Ross.

  4. He will be missed! I worked for him for 26 years at Walker Ross. He was tough at times but you always knew he cared about his employees and was there to help anyone if the need arose. My deepest sympathy to Carol and Gina!

    Jencie

  5. Frank was a good man and a great employer. He cared deeply for the people who became his work family. He will be missed. Praying for Carol and Gina and his family during this time.

  6. I worked with Frank at Walker-Ross while in high school in 1975 and for over ten years afterward. He was not only a smart and successful business owner, but someone who genuinely cared for his employees and their families. I am keeping Carol and the family in my prayers during this time.

  7. The first time we met Frank, we saw the twinkle in his eye — and it never left. His warm, playful smile and adventurous spirit were always there. He was resilient, a trooper through it all, and truly larger than life. We feel privileged to have known him.

  8. Frank was my boss for around 40 years. We had great times, times of conflict, times of sadness and times of happiness. He loved nothing more than his employees (after Carol and Gina of course). He will most certainly be missed. So many memories – Walnut Cafe, Western Sizzle, snow, being late to work, watching him argue with Bob Adkins.

  9. Frank was a very kind and patient man! We enjoyed him coming by the restaurant and eating breakfast before he went to Walker Ross to work! He will not be forgotten!

  10. I worked for Frank at Walker-Ross (I called him PaPa Smurf) we had a lot of laughs and Frank cared so much for his employees. He will truly be missed.

  11. I remember when I started at Walker-Ross, Frank was so excited to have another Chowan graduate in the building. He was a great man who never pulled punches. He was up front and truthful. He’ll be missed by many. May he Rest in Peace.

  12. Karl Schnellinger,
I remember Frank from our times together at PICA and at the PICA Foundation. Frank was PICA
Chairman in 1994, in meetings he was always very calm – but to the point.
    THANK YOU, FRANK

  13. I had the privilege of working and collaborating with Frank for almost twenty years. He cared deeply about excellence and expected the best from himself and from those he worked with. That belief in people—and in the work—left a lasting mark on all of us who knew him.

  14. Frank was a great man. He gave me a job immediately after I came back from the Air Force in 1972. Years later Frank, myself and some other friends would meet at BO JANGLES and the SIXTY FOUR DINER for breakfast. He and Carol were wonderful christians. Praying you Carol.

  15. Sending so much love Carol and Gina. What a joy it has been to have known Frank through the years. Our times together at Sunday church in Asheville to Christmas Eve gatherings, will always hold a sweet place in my heart. Frank was such a love and it was always special to have time with Regina’s parents! I love your family and I am holding you both in my heart and prayers. XO, Laura

  16. Carol and Family: We were blessed to have met and I worked for Walker Ross for about 2 years ‘76-‘78. Frank was a positive role model for us and his influence led us to start and operate our own printing business for 35 years!! It all happened because Frank was our role model for building and operating our business! Through him we touched many lives !! God graced our lives with Frank Edwards!! We will see him again soon in Heaven. God bless you, Regina and entire family!!

  17. Frank Edwards was a kind, caring gentleman. He and Carol were role models of how to live in a loving relationship. We are blessed to know he is now with our Lord and we will see him again. Until then, my prayers are with you, Carol, and Gina that you will cherish your wonderful memories. With love in Christ, Sarah Patterson Bailey

  18. I was one of Franks’ empoyee at Walker Ross and Riverside Printing Co. Frank was a great boss. He cared for his employees, he was understanding if things was going on in your personal life. I enjoyed working for him. May he rest peacefully in Heaven.
    Diane

  19. Frank was a true old world gentleman. When I was new young and ignorant of printing he taught me so much. I always felt fortunate to learn the old-fashioned way printing was done before having to master the newfangled digital way. He was generous with his time and skills.
A good businessman and local citizen.
God bless his family at this time.

  20. My sincere condolences to Mrs. Carol Edwards and family. May God strengthen all of you during this difficult time.
