Paul Miller

August 4, 1948 ~ December 29, 2025

ROCKY MOUNT – Paul Miller, age 77, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025.  Born in Scioto County, OH on August 4, 1948, he was the son of the late Paul Robert Miller and Anna Mae Tackett Miller.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jim Miller.

Paul was a devoted educator, coach, and mentor whose life was marked by service to others.  A 1966 graduate of Valley High School, he went on to attend Piedmont College in Georgia on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1970.  Following college, Paul began his career in teaching and coaching in Georgia, where he served for five years before returning home to Lucasville, Ohio, in 1976.  There, he poured his heart into education and athletics, coaching football, girls’ basketball, and girls’ track, and shaping countless young lives along the way.  His dedication to student-athletes extended beyond the local level, as he served on the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Board of Directors and was honored with induction into the Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Valley High School Board of Education Hall of Fame.  After 36 years of faithful service, Paul retired in 2008, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, leadership, and encouragement. Outside of his professional life, he found his greatest joys in fishing, watching his grandchildren compete in sports, and proudly cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

Paul is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christi Rowland Miller; his sons, Joe Miller and wife, Kindra, of Colorado Springs, CO and Robbie Miller and wife, Julie, of Rocky Mount, NC; his daughter, Julie Miller Witers and husband, Brad, of Matthews, NC; his grandchildren, Rebecca Miller, Paige Miller, Jackson Miller, twins Gehrig Miller and Landry Miller, Anna Witers, Berkeley Miller, and Carter Witers; his brother, Donnie Miller and wife, Jo Ann; his sisters, Debie Kester and Pam Blume and husband, Kevin; his sister-in-law, Virginia Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I’ve known Paul since I started school in ’66 when we rode the same school bus. I’ve known him as a coach, a neighbor and friend l. I am deeply saddened by his passing. I want to extend my love and condolences to Christy and the kids. May the Lord bring you comfort as you walk this path.

  2. Rest in peace Mr. Miller. You made a huge impact on alot of our lives and will always be remembered. Prayers for your family during this difficult time.

  3. I have so many fond memories of Paul (Coach Miller) as my girls basketball coach and one of my high school teachers. Of course a few of those memories might include running 5/30s and suicides in basketball practice. Coach was one of the bright lights during my high school years. My dad, Roger Lundy, coached and taught with Paul and enjoyed those years so much. I was fortunate to also work with Paul on a scholarship committee during his tenure as Superintendent at Valley. My life was better for having known him. Lots of love to Christi and the rest of his family. I know this loss will leave an enormous void in their lives. Grief is a hard journey, especially with a loss as great as this one. #AlwaysAnIndian
