SHARPSBURG – Joyce Taylor Brown, age 92, of Sharpsburg, passed away, October 15th, 2025, peacefully surrounded by family and love. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joyce lived a life marked by kindness, grace, and unwavering faith.  Born in Nash County, NC on October 8, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Harvey R. Taylor and Pattie Ruth Batts Taylor.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Floyd Ray Brown and her brother, Harvey Linwood “Buck” Taylor.

Joyce dedicated more than 35 years of service as a teller at the bank in Sharpsburg, where she was known for her warm smile and gentle manner. She was also a faithful, lifelong member of Sharpsburg Baptist Church, where she shared her love of music by playing the organ for many years.  Her presence brought light into every room she entered. Joyce will be remembered for her loving spirit, her constant smile, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.

Joyce is lovingly remembered by her sons, Jeff Brown (Karen) and Greg Brown (Shari); her grandchildren, Brandie Baker (Adam), Kayla Garcia (Omar), Jacob (Jennifer), and Joey Brown; her great-grandchildren, Maddie, Jaxson, Jack, Sophia, Jagger, Mathew, Elliot, Piper, Elena, Mason and Jennings; her special friend, Bruce Batchelor; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Billy Webb officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Mill Branch Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

  4. Mrs. Brown was one of my favorite people at Sharpsburg Baptist church when I was a girl. She was my GA leader. She also worked with my mom, Obie Cressman, at People’s Bank in Sharpsburg. Mrs. Brown was beautiful and graceful in many ways.
