ROCKY MOUNT – Ashley Ettinger Pattisall, age 77, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025. Born in Nash County, NC on February 28, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Richard Eugene Ettinger and Emily Royster Burton Ettinger.
Ashley grew up in Rocky Mount. She graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High, Saint Mary’s College in Raleigh, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1970 with a degree in Sociology.
Ashley met her future husband while she was at Saint Mary’s. Good friend Katherine Keel set up a blind date between Ashley and Jack Pattisall in 1968. They married on June 8, 1969, and recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.
Growing up, Ashley spent time every summer in Nags Head, NC, with her family. She kept up the tradition with her children and grandchildren. She often said it was her favorite time because they were all together. She especially loved that her grandchildren had those vacations to spend time together like she did with her cousins.
Ashley had many interests over the years. She was an active member of the Junior Guild of Rocky Mount. She spent numerous days on the golf course at Benvenue Country Club, even traveling to different tournaments to play with friends. Later, she shifted her focus from golf to painting.
Ashley also enjoyed traveling. There were adventures in Greece and Italy. She and Jack had wonderful times in places like Russia and Budapest. They spent time soaking up the sun on their annual trip to Anguilla. In 2015, she and Jack took their children and grandchildren to France to visit Normandy and Paris. It is a trip that the whole family still talks about as one of their treasured memories.
Ashley enjoyed cooking and experimenting with new recipes. She was an avid gardener.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Coxe Pattisall; her, daughter, Juliana Royster Pattisall-Williams; her son, John Ashley Pattisall (Cathy); her grandchildren, Hallie Royster Williams Fody (Chris), Virginia Hofler Williams, Keely Marie Pattisall, Ryan Ashley Pattisall, and Jackson Edwards Pattisall; her sister, Emily Warren Ettinger (Jerry Mobley); her beloved cat Phoebe; and many cousins, a niece, and nephews.
Ashley was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend to many, Ashley will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
