Shelva D. Langston

ROCKY MOUNT – Shelva D. Langston, age 88, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025.  Born in Edgecombe County, NC on October 7, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence M. Newsome and Bloomer Daisy Taylor Newsome.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Langston; sons, Lawrence Deese and Stanley Deese; her brothers, Raymond Newsome, Joseph Newsome, Berry Newsome, and L.M. Newsome; and her sister, Barbara Joyner.

Shelva enjoyed the beauty in caring for her garden, the same care she gave to her family through the years.  She created a multitude of wonderful memories for her family and friends, around her delicious home cooked meals. Shelva also enjoyed watching mystery tv and spending her time with her family.

Shelva is survived by her daughter, Angela Deese; her grandson, Matthew Deese; her brothers, Carl Newsome and wife, Sandra and Harvey Newsome and wife, Mattie; and her sister, Lois Pierce; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Shelva’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
