David Luke Whittington

ROCKY MOUNT – David Luke Whittington, age 57, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025.  He was born in Vicenza, Italy on May 11, 1967.  He was preceded in death by his father, Cloyd C. Whittington.

David was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ and a man of steadfast faith.  He was a member of Englewood Baptist Church, where his trust in the Lord was the foundation of his life.  A proud graduate of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, David earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering and went on to pursue a career that reflected both his intelligence and passion for technology.

From a young age, David had a curious and adventurous spirit.  He found joy in scuba diving, fishing, and spending time on the water—places where he felt most free.  His love for food, especially dishes that reflected his rich Italian heritage, brought warmth and joy to those around him.  He was also a dedicated sports fan, especially fond of baseball, and found excitement in both watching and playing the game.

David’s career took him to remarkable places.  While living in Kentucky, he had the unique opportunity to travel abroad for work, including destinations as far-reaching as Spain.  One of his greatest joys was visiting Italy, a place he returned to often and where he felt deeply connected to his roots.

His life was full of meaningful experiences, quiet passions, and strong faith – all of which remain a comfort to those who loved him most, especially his beloved mother.

David is survived by his mother, Maria Luisa Whittington of Washington, DC; and other extended family members and friends.
