Rocky Mount – Mary “Jane” Stevenson Melton, age 81, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024. Born in Smyth County, VA, on March 29, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Dock J. Stevenson and Ruby G. Thomas Stevenson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Gene” Melton; her sister, Barbara Stevenson Moler; her brother, Ralph Stevenson; and her brothers-in-law, J.D. Melton and Harry James Melton.
A true Nightingale Nurse and caretaker to all, Jane retired as a registered nurse after many years but never stopped caring for those around her who were in need. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, making blankets, dish towels, and crocheting; however, what she loved the most was gifting her works of art to others. A loving and dedicated mother, sister, sister-in-law, and dear friend to many, Jane will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Myra LeAnn Melton; her son, Gene Melton, II; her sisters, Nancy Newins and Carol Smith; her sisters-in-law, Judy Melton and Margaret Taylor (Glenn); her longtime dearest family friends, Della Mangum and Mildred Brown; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and loving friends.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Wendy Edwards officiating.
A Private Burial will be held at a later time at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.

I am so sorry to see this. Your mom was a great lady. Every time I would see her, (and it has been a few years) she was always talking about her Rob. She loved you dearly. I remember your dad and your mom at games at N.E.W. You were truly blessed with some great parents. You will be in our prayers buddy.
