Joan "Joannie" Carver Holloman

July 18, 1954 ~ September 15, 2024

ROCKY MOUNT – Joan “Joannie” Carver Holloman, age 70, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Born in Cumberland County, NC on July 18, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Lee Carver, Jr. and Jewel Stubbs Carver. She was also preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, Robert “Robbie” Holloman, Jr.; and her sister, Mary “Phyllis” Pearce.
Joannie was a devoted believer whose Christian values shone brightly throughout her life. She had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved bloodhound, Rosie, who was always on her mind. Now that Joannie has gone to be with the Lord, her faithful neighbors, Kim and Barry Lewis—who are like family—will be caring for Rosie in her memory. Though Joannie mostly kept to herself, she shared a particularly close bond with her sister, Phyllis, who passed away. Being just 14 months apart in age, the two sisters were inseparable throughout their lives.
Joannie is survived by her sister, Belinda Carver Forbes and husband, Joe, of Elizabeth City; her nephews, Marcus Lee Perry (Jane) and Alexander Wright Perry (Michelle); and her niece, Marcie Jo Perry Jacobs (Greg).
A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joannie’s memory to Edgecombe-Nash Humane Society, PO Box 1783, Rocky Mount, NC 27802.
Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. You may share memories and condolences with the family by visiting www.wheelerwoodlief.com.

  1. This morning I received a message about a very close friend who passed away yesterday. We had been friends since high school and way beyond years to this time. If it had not been for her I would have never known about the job opening and was hired as Court Advocate Program . Joannie will be someone special in my heart forever. She was genuine , caring, loving, passionate , had empathy about people and helped so many . People loved her for just being Joannie , the serious side especially when it came to her family, friends, animals and work. But there was also a funny side & silly side of her too that could make one laugh. She touched so many lives, helped so many women and children and I’m so proud to have called her one of my dearest forever friends. Rest in Peace Joannie for God ‘s angel on earth has entered into Heaven.

  2. I loved this lady and she knew it! She loved me and I knew it! Heart of Gold! A precious very rare jewel! Humble and kind, loving and compassionate, just like her heavenly father…it’s not too many “Joanie’s I have seen in the world and I’m 54 years old and been in the company of many many people black and white…this lady was the real deal. No fake, no phony mess…just real…called it like she saw it, no matter who it was…. I declare God made a good one when He created this woman…my heart is so so heavy and yes the tears are falling…GOD is sovereign and I accept His will…I worked with Joan for 5 years, 1994 – 1999….oh my, i will ALWAYS have those to remember….the Lord let our path cross about 3 years ago and we stayed connected for about couple of months where we called each other practically every day or every other day and we laughed and talked about absolutely EVERYTHING! SHE NEVER CHANGED AND I DIDN’T EITHER! TAKE YOUR REST MY LOVING AND WONDERFUL FRIEND!😭😭😭
I just know we will meet again on the other side! See you later♥️♥️♥️
