ROCKY MOUNT – Billy Lee Dix, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Born in Danville, Virginia on March 10, 1937, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Dix and Nellie Eula Willis Dix. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Copeland Dix; his sister, Connie Fay Dix and his brother, Roger Ray Dix.
A man of great faith, Billy was a longtime active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, having served on the Vestry amongst other church groups. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. Billy retired from Burlington Industries following over 35 years of dedicated service as the Plant Manager of the Sheffield plant. Throughout his career, he always believed in giving back to his community by serving in various civic organizations such as the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce and the United Way, of which he was a past president, and he was a strong supporter and Hokie fan of his alma mater, Virginia Tech. A loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to many, Billy will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Billy is survived by his wife, Rachel Thompson Dix; his daughters, Suzanne Dix Day (Douglas) and Krissie Spitcaufsky (Cory); his grandchildren, Carter Day, Gigi Day, Evan Spitcaufsky, Eli Spitcaufsky, and Sydney Spitcaufsky; his sisters, Barbara Dix Oakes and Patsy Dix Robertson (Tom); his brothers, Dexter David Dix (Pam) and Douglas Wilson Dix (Rosemary); his closest friend who was like a brother to him, Dick Edmondson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Billy’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 301 S Circle Dr, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Les Carpenter officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and at other times at the home.
