Jerry Sue Hutsell

January 15, 1938 ~ July 5, 2024

ROCKY MOUNT – Jerry Sue Hutsell, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 5, 2024. Born in Cumberland County, TN on January 15, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward Campbell and Helen Lea Campbell. Jerry Sue had a deep faith and a fervent love for the Lord. She was active at multiple churches and served as a youth leader and Sunday school teacher. She worked as a librarian at her local Jr. High School and had a passion for reading. While living in Charlotte, she spent time as a Scout leader, demonstrating her commitment to community service. She was a self-taught artist, creating professional quality paintings that she framed herself. She also had a love for crafts and antiques. Jerry Sue’s organizational skills were impeccable, and she was known for her perfect handwriting, right up to her final signature. She had a deep love for animals, particularly Old English Sheepdogs. Her dedication to raising and training her dogs led to numerous trophies and ribbons from dog shows. Even winning a AKC championship with one of her prized males. For a period, Jerry Sue worked on a cruise ship out of Florida, adding a touch of adventure to her life. In her later years she found joy in coloring in complex adult coloring books. All worthy to be framed. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and devoted wife. Jerry Sue is survived by her sons, Greg Hutsell (Tina) and Randy Hutsell (Corrine); her grandchildren, Chelsea Hutsell (Bradley Rivenbark), Caitlin Hutsell, and Casey Hutsell Pollard (Ben); her great-grandchildren, Cameron Thorpe, Adlyn Rivenbark, and Emory Rivenbark; her sister, Charlene Lawerence; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jerry Sue’s life will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 5:00 PM at the home of Greg and Tina Hutsell, 6080 Tar River Cove Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Pastor Mike Edmondson officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service. Dinner will be provided. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Jerry Sue’s memory to Nash County Animal Shelter, 921 N. 1st Street, Nashville, NC 27856.
