ROCKY MOUNT – Susan Leigh Yenney, age 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at her home after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. Born in Kittery, ME on July 6, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Matthew Frederick Yenney, Jr. and Edna McCuen Yenney. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Yenney Howell.
When Susan was two years old her family moved to Rocky Mount, where she lived for the rest of her life. She graduated from Rocky Mount Academy and attended Peace College. Susan started working for Planters Bank in 1985 and retired from PNC after 30 years of dedicated service in Rocky Mount. During her retirement she enjoyed going to the beach and visiting her great-nieces and great-nephews. Susan loved to cross stitch and took great joy in completing a special piece for each member of her family during the last years of her life. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church her entire life. She served as a Deacon and was a board member of Covenant Homes. She also visited and sent cards to those who were not able to leave their home.
Susan is survived by her siblings, Anne Hughes and husband, Tom, of Louisville, KY, Matthew Yenney Ill of Rocky Mount, Melissa Bynum and husband, Harry, of Raleigh, Kathleen Meffert of Louisville, KY, and Chris Yenney and wife, Shepard, of Rocky Mount; her ten nieces and nephews, Rebecca Fullington and husband, Garrett, Rachael Yenney, Leah Stevenson and husband, Ryan, Margie Gately and husband, Tyler, Jimmy Keel and wife, Clai, Allison Lockhart and husband, Chris, Joey Hughes, Emily Meffert, Chris Yenney and wife, Kaleigh, and Frank Yenney and wife, Charlotte; her eight great-nieces and great-nephews, McLean, Frances, Page, James, Louise, Maddox, Mac, and Hudson.
A private family Memorial Graveside Service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held at Pineview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Susan’s memory to Nash UNC Health Care Hospice & Palliative Care, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

I am so sorry for your loss. I grew up down the street from the Yennys and played kick the can and hide and seek with all of them. I spent many wonderful days and nights with them.
