After many years of declining health, Glena Marsh Ball took Jesus hand and was welcomed home on Monday, January 26, 2015. She was 84 years old. Glena was born on November 20, 1930, to Creed O. and Lelah Hovatter Marsh in Nestorville, WV.
Glena was the third child in a family of seven children born to Creed and Lelah. She was raised on a dairy farm and was blessed with a happy childhood in a loving home. She attended Barbour County schools and earned a degree from Morgantown Business College. She was first employed by the County Agricultural Agent in Philippi, WV as a secretary. She married her hometown sweetheart Donald Ball on October 8, 1952, shortly after he returned from service in the Korean War. They first set up housekeeping together in Morgantown, WV, where Don earned a degree in Forest Management from West Virginia University. While Don earned his degree, Glena worked as a secretary in the Political Science Department. Following Dons graduation, the couple moved south and have been there ever since. They have lived in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, then finally settled in Rocky Mount, NC, in 1975. While in Florida, welcomed two children to their family. Donnie was born in 1958, and Kim in 1960.
Following the birth of their children, Glena became a full time homemaker and devoted her life to her family. In addition to being a loving mother and wife, Glena was gifted with many artistic talents. She was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed cooking, painting, gardening, and knitting. Glena was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she participated in many service activities and Bible studies. But her favorite lifetime pleasure was being a wonderful mother to Donnie and Kim and an awesome Nana to her grandchildren, Leah and Zane. She was so anxious for grandchildren that this was the written prayer request she stuffed in the cracks of the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and brought back water from the Jordan River in anticipation of baptizing the grandchildren she knew would be hers one day. Today, her beautiful granddaughter is a sophomore at Appalachian State University and her grandson is a high school honors student who will be entering into the Engineering Program at UNC Ashville in the Fall. Her greatest joy was her lifes journey with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her Comforter, Redeemer, and Healer.
She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-two years, Don Ball; her daughter, Kim Chandler and husband Larry and her grandchildren Leah and Zane Chandler. She is also survived by one brother, Wilfred Marsh and wife Jeanie, and three sisters, Martha Ball and husband, George; Clara Nestor and husband, Charlie and Betty Jones; and brother-in-law, John Price. Glena was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by her lifelong friends, Charles and Ginger Godfrey and devoted neighbors, Randy and Becky Vann.
Glena was preceded in death by her parents Creed and Lelah Marsh, her infant brother, Billie Zane Marsh (her grandsons namesake); her sister, Idola Price, and her beloved son, Donnie Ball who died in a highway accident in 1980.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Community Home Care Hospice and hold in high regard her caregivers Suzy Todd, Tabora Richardson, Joyce Cobb, Alma Graham, Norma Richardson, Karen Cobb, Jackie Howell and Tiffany Cotton who so tenderly cared for Glenna for many years and loved her dearly.

Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
Shared a BSF class with Mrs. Ball about 13 years ago. She was so sweet and helpful to me in my very first class and I will always remember her. There is no doubt that she is resting at the feet of Jesus! Will keep her family in my prayers!
Mary Jo and I extend our condolences to Don and family on Glena’s passing. Please know that we will hold you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. I interviewed with Don when I applied for employment with Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Augusta, Georgia in the summer of 1972. I was subsequently hired by GP where I remained for 28 years until my retirement in 2000. Later in my career with GP we worked together on several occasions in the Carolina’s and Virginia until Don’s retirement. Dave Woodmansee and wife, Mary Jo
