Jewel Pearce Britt, 77, passed away on January 6, 2015. She was born October 24, 1937 in Rocky Mount NC to the late C. Wood Pearce and Estelle Woodruff Pearce. Jewel was preceded in death by her husband Henry M. Britt, Jr, a sister, Barbara Pearce Holloway, and nephews Kipling Gray Deaver, Joseph Holloway and great niece Mattie Gray Deaver.
Jewel was a graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High, Carolina School of Commerce and attended NC Wesleyan College. Following the death of her husband, Jewel enjoyed a successful career developing real estate in Edgecombe County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC, a member of the Jr. Womans Club, and a recipient of the Woman of the Year Award of the Edgecombe County Garden Club. Jewel enjoyed raising hybrid tea roses, loved to cook, and spent many hours canning and freezing vegetables and making her famous watermelon rind and cucumber pickles, which she loved sharing with family and friends. She enjoyed fishing the NC Coast, Central America, and the Western States, and traveling to many Asian countries.
Jewel is survived by her sister, Myrtle Pearce Deaver and husband Bobby; her children, Steve Sparks and wife Kim, Marti Sparks Brown and husband Chris, and Jill Sparks Pittman; grandchildren, Joseph Sparks and wife Alyson, Adam Sparks, Britt Brown, Hunter Brown, William Pittman, Grey Pittman; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Walker and his staff, the staff with Community Home Hospice, the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice and Wanda Modlin, her caregiver, for the tender loving care they gave to our mother.
A graveside burial will be held on Saturday January 10, 2015, 10:00am at Pineview Cemetery, North Raleigh Street, Rocky Mount, NC. A memorial service to remember Jewel will be held at 11:00am at Lakeside Baptist Church, 1501 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Dr. Jody Wright officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, 902 Wellness Dr, Greenville, NC 27834 or Lakeside Baptist Church, 1501 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Even though didn’t know your family personally. I would like to share encouraging thoughts from the Bible. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. At times like this we need to rely on the God of all comfort Jehovah (2 Cor. 13) He sustain you in your time of need please rely on him. One day there will be no more death as recorded at Revelations 213,4. May these words prove to be a source of hope for the loved ones of Jewel.
I was so sad to hear of your mother’s passing. I don’t know any of the family but bacame friends with Jewel while she lived in Wilmington N. C. She was neighbor of mine and we shared many good times together. We had lost touch over the years but I thought of her often. I know how much she loved her family and she was a great person. jewel was a friend, I did visit with her in Rocky Mt. and Charleston. She was a very good tennis player. I am really sad to see this because of a broken heart. Bill burke
