Stephen Clay Bennett

Stephen Clay Bennett, age 71, began his eternal fishing trip on Saturday, December 13, 2014. He was the son of the late Noah Roberson Bennett and Opal Nugent Bennett. Stephen was also predeceased by his sister, Jeanette Bennett Moore. Steve was a native of Rocky Mount and graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High in 1961. He then attended North Carolina Wesleyan College and began working at Seaboard Coastline Railroad. He retired in sales from Whites International Trucks in Wilson, NC. As an avid outdoorsmen, there was nothing he enjoyed more than hunting and fishing with his many longtime friends. He will be missed dearly by his family and his many friends. He is survived by his sister, Susan Carrington and her husband, Kirby of Rocky Mount, NC; brother, Noah (Robbie) Bennett and his wife, Joyce of Rocky Mount, NC; nephews, Adam Blake Carrington, Steven Brent Carrington and his wife, Becky and Grant Bennett Carrington; niece, Kristen Bennett Glover and her husband, Dale. He was also survived by his faithful lab companions, Suzee and Tar Rebel. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to North Carolina Wildlife Federation, 1024 Washington Street, Raleigh, NC 27605 or online to www.ncwf.org.
