Joseph “Joe” Milo Wheeler

ROCKY MOUNT - Joseph "Joe" Milo Wheeler, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 after a prolonged illness with his loving wife, Paula Freunscht Wheeler, at his bedside. Born in Hampden County, MA on December 24, 1938, he was the son of the late Court Leland Wheeler and Stefa Eleanor Wozniak Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalee Bachette Wheeler. Joe served in the United States Air Force stationed in Germany. He graduated from Western New England College with a Degree in Education and received two Master Degrees in Higher Education. Joe was the Registrar at several Universities. Joe enjoyed traveling and visiting old battlegrounds. He was an avid reader and loved to go fishing. Joe was always positive and saw the good in everyone and everything. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 25 years, Paula Freunscht Wheeler; son, Jason Wheeler of Syracuse, NY; and daughters, Stefanie Wheeler of Haverhill, MA, Rebecca Culver of Pittsboro, and Shannon Culver of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by grandchildren, Trevor Jonathan Wheeler, Jaden Dakarai White, Austin Wheeler, Cameron Wheeler, and Kendra Wheeler; one great-grandchild; and sister, Susan Tuner of Enfield, CT. A Celebration of Joe's Life will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Richard Gurganus officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite library in Joe's memory.
