Floyd Cary Thompson, age 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 27, 2014. Born January 29, 1931, to the late John James and Elizabeth Fly Thompson, he was predeceased by a son, Glenn Wayne Thompson; a sister, Rachel Batchelor; brothers, David, Earl, Lloyd, Willie, Harvey, Lester Thompson and Frank Winters.
A respected gentlemen and man of God, Floyd was a model husband, father and friend to all those blessed to know him. His love for his wife and precious daughter knew no bounds, and he was his happiest when they were together. A member of Peoples Fellowship Baptist Church, he loved his church family and his Pastor. He was a master sheet metal mechanic, especially honing his craft with copper. Every project he undertook was completed to perfection. Floyd spent countless hours sharing his knowledge and skills with others. He loved his work and the opportunity it afforded him to meet and make many friends from all walks of life.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of almost sixty-one years, Audrey J. Thompson; a very special and loved daughter, Angelia Beth Thompson of the home and a God-daughter, Mindi Outlaw Collins; a sister, Brenda House; brothers, Ray Thompson and Larry Thompson; sisters-in-law, Mildred Thompson, Marie Daughtridge, Barbara Barnes and her husband, Bill, Mateline Moss and her husband, Bobby, Margaret Bullock and her husband, Mike; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special boy, Bayden Collins.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, November 29, 2014, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services and other times at the home. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Floyd will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at 1:00pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor David Grogan officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Peoples Fellowship Baptist Church, 11972 E. NC 97, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 or Community Home Care and Hospice, 3124 Zebulon Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
