Harris W. Hortman

ROCKY MOUNT - Harris W. Hortman, age 79, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019. Born in Taylor County, GA on August 15, 1939, he was the son of the late Wanza Woodrow Hortman and Winifred Myrtle Harris Hortman. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Eugenia Hortman Brand and Wanda Lynn Hortman. A man of great faith, Harris was a long-time member of Englewood United Methodist Church. A Certified Public Accountant for many years, he was a founding partner with Bunch, Daughtridge, Greene & Hortman, CPAs, presently Bunch & Company, until his retirement. A faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many, Harris will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Harris leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 58 years, Glenda Lumpkin Hortman; son, Jefferson Harris Hortman and wife, Mollie; and daughters, Lynn Hortman Unruh and husband, Martin, and Karla Hortman Willcox and husband, John. He is also survived by grandchildren, Lindsey Unruh Stalls and husband, Ben, Allison Willcox Tolston and husband, Eric, Morgan Lynn Willcox, Kelsey Unruh Burkett and husband, Dustin, and Rachel Scott Hortman; great-grandchildren, Eli Evans Stalls and coming in June Ms. Lynlee Grace Burkett; many nieces and nephews; and his four-legged companion, Avery. A Funerial Service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, with Pastor Terry Williams and Dr. Jody Wright officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.   1. I would like to express my condolences in the loss of your dear loved one. The bible gives us hope of seeing them again in the promised resurrection according to scriptures such as [John 528-29] and [Acts 2415]. We find further hope in scriptures like [Isaiah 258] and [Revelations 213-5] which says in part that Jehovah God will wipe out every tear from our eyes and death will be no more, because God will swallow up death forever. I hope these scriptures will be of some comfort. With Deep Sympathy.

  7. Glenda, we are so sorry to hear about Harris. I remember going to a high school talent show and hearing him sing Love Is a Many Splendered Thing. He was very talented and smart man. Sorry we could not make it to service. Charles and Janice

  12. To The Family I am sorry about your loss the Bible is very comforting to all of us during our time of loss. I away think about the scripture John 528,29 which states all those in the memorial tombs will come back to life again. Also I think of Revelation 213,4 where it read death will be no more it will be the thing of the pass. These and other scripture helps me to deal with my losses. With My Deepest Sympathy
