Peggie Joyner Dickens

March 17, 1933 ~ December 30, 2017

ROCKY MOUNT - Peggie Joyner Dickens, age 84, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Born in Nash County, NC on March 17, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Jethro David Joyner and Inez Elizabeth Smith Joyner. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Marie Joyner and Tempie Herbert Chenoweth; brother, Rev. Gordon Joyner; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Dickens Robbins; son-in-law, Robert Michael Everette, Sr. Peggie was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Peggie was a Charter member of Benvenue Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, served on various committees and always kept an active role in decorating the church. She also loved gardening and was a wonderful homemaker. Peggie's character was the true meaning of Proverbs 31:10. Peggie leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband of 64 years, C.W. "Buck" Dickens, Jr.; daughter, Jamie Dickens Everette and her fianc Jerry Barnes, Jr. of Rocky Mount; a son Charles Wesley Dickens, III and his wife Deborah of Rocky Mount. Peggie will also be missed dearly by grandchildren, Robert Michalski (Kelly), Charles Wesley Dickens, IV. (Jessica), Jonathan Weskett Dickens (Tanya), Elizabeth St. Claire Everette (Keith) and Robert Michael Everette, Jr. (Ashley); great-grandchildren Zachary, Paisley and Robert Michalski. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The Family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Care of Nash for their love and tender care. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Benvenue Baptist Church, 2464 Benvenue Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with the Pastor Mike Creekmore and Parker Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Peggie's name to Benvenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 2464 Benvenue Road, Rocky Mount, NC.   1. To Uncle Buck, Jamie and family, Charles and family my heart breaks for your loss. I know that Heaven is even brighter for Aunt Peggy’s presence. My life was enriched by the example that Aunt Peggy lived for all to see. She loved her children, Grandchildren, Uncle Buck for sure, and was a testimony to a life lived for God and family. I am praying for the family and know you are in my thoughts and prayers now and always. I love you Aunt Peggy.

  10. My Condolences to the family. I’ve known the Dickens all my life. We’ve farmed together over the years and Mr. Buck is my dad’s, William Arnold, landlord. Mrs. Peggy was a Sweetheart and will truly be missed. Mr. Buck loved Mrs. Peggy so much, and yes, she was surely a Virtuous Women.
