ROCKY MOUNT - Ruth Evelyn Worrell Stephenson, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at the Edgecombe Health and Rehab Center in Tarboro, N.C. Born in Nash County, NC on December 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes Fountain Worrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ben Stephenson.
Ruth lived most of her adult life in Enfield, N.C. with her husband, Ben, who predeceased her in 1988. Following Ben's death, Ruth moved to Rocky Mount where she resided until moving into The Fountains of the Albemarle in Tarboro in June of 2014. After experiencing recent health problems, she moved to the Edgecombe Health and Rehab Center.
Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Marty Stephenson and wife, Wain, of Thomasville, NC; her sister, Tillie O'Briant of Tarboro, formerly of Raleigh NC; her niece, Cindy Edson of Morehead City and Cary NC., and her great nephew, Cyrus Edson of Florida.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 11:30 PM to 1:30 PM in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. A Private Graveside Service will be held at a later time.
