Donna Morrow Smith

SPRING HOPE - Donna Morrow Smith, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Born in Berlin, WI on December 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Walter Phillip Morrow and Jean Grota Morrow. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Smith; sons, Phillip William Smith, Paul M. Smith; daughter, Jane Smith Stewart; son-in-law, Dan Armstrong; and daughter-in-law, Wendy Smith. Donna was a woman who devoted her life to helping others around her. At an early age she began her career in nursing in 1948 where she was a registered nurse for Rocky Mount Sanitarium and then for Rocky Mount Community Hospital, now Life Care Hospital. Over the span of 50 years, Donna touched many lives in many different ways through her tenure as a RN or through her volunteer work with Nash General Hospital until an injury forced her to retire in 2005. This devotion she had to others was also a significant aspect to her family life as she was known to be the glue that held everything together. Donna was always the center of gravity for her family. A beautiful woman inside and out, she will be most remembered as being the loving mother to her children, grandmother and great-grandmother, and friend to many. Donna leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Thomas "Tom" Smith; and her four daughters, Lita Smith Armstrong of Spring Hope, Betsy Smith Eagles and husband, Robert, of Nashville, Ann Smith Davis of Bunn, and Amy Smith Ayscue of Cleveland, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jason Smith, Nicholas Smith, Molly Armstrong Jones, Ashley Davis Wetter, Raymond Davis, Rebekah Ayscue Spears, Kristen Ayscue, Brandon Smith, Fred Simmons, Brad Stewart, Doug Stewart, Greg Stewart, and Jacob Upchurch; and her 15 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
