Thomas “Tommy” Wayne Barnhill

ROCKY MOUNT - Thomas "Tommy" Wayne Barnhill, age 63, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018. Born in Nash County, NC on November 15, 1954, he was the son of the late John Lucious Barnhill and Annie Mae Ward Barnhill. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Christine Durant; brothers-in-law, Bill Earwood and Mike Durant. Tommy leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 30 years, Cheryl Durant Barnhill; and sons, Thomas Lucas "Luke" Barnhill and wife, Lindsay, of Raleigh, and Christopher "Brock" Barnhill of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by a brother, John Barnhill and wife, Dianne, of Rocky Mount; sisters-in-law, Tina Durant Earwood of Raleigh, Diane Durant Joyner and husband, John, of Atlantic Beach, Nancy Durant of Greensboro; nieces and nephews, Jay Barnhill, Jonathan Earwood, Jennifer Earwood, Blake Joyner, and Sarah Joyner. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Englewood Baptist Church, 1350 S. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor Charles Taylor and Kenny Dickerson officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of Englewood Baptist Church. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Englewood Baptist Church, 1350 S.   2. Cheryl, Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. What a great guy Tommy was! He was loved by so many. I have such great memories of him in high school and the fun we had as a group. Thank you so much for taking such good care of him through the years. He will be missed, but he’s in a glorious place now. The best part is he’s healed!

  4. Hadn’t seen Tommy in quite awhile but I will always remember him and the good times when we were younger! Hate to see someone go so early but he is in a better place now!

  5. Oh how I remember all the fun times we used to have at the Lighthouse N Wilson at Jack’s N Rocky Mount. Myself Gail Ezzell Ford, Georgia Miller Phillips, Ginger Mizelle Griffin, Rodney Nantz and Tommy!!!! We would close it down!!! I have always loved Tommy. What a nice funny guy!!   8. I remember the first time I met Tommy. He was the coolest guy my best friend Cheryl ever dated. I was glad when they decided to get hitched. Tommy had a special way of making me and everyone feel special and welcome. A genuine heart. Now that he has returned home to glory. I pray for comfort and peace for the Barnhill family. That they feel the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ wrapped around them. I pray that we can celebrate Tommy’s life by living ours to glorify our Father every day. In a blink of an eye.

  10. Tommy and family have been good friends for many years. Glad we were able to see him last week. Not the same as our previous yearly visits, but we got to tell him we loved him one more time. We are sending love and hugs to Cheryl, Luke and Brock. Love, Barbara and Tommy Griffin
