ROCKY MOUNT - Malda Jenkins Baines, age 80, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on October 7, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Tommie and Ruth Jenkins of Rocky Mount. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Buddy" Baines; brothers, Tommie Jenkins, Jr., and Bert Jenkins, and sister, Elizabeth Jenkins Bottoms. Her surviving sister and best friend is Barbara Jenkins Meadows of Sharpsburg.
Malda attended West Edgecombe School and graduated in 1956. She met the love her life, Joseph "Buddy" Baines, at the skating rink in Enfield and was married to him in 1957. They were happily married for 56 years until his passing in 2013. After five years of marriage, they were blessed with their first child, Malda Jo Baines Harrell of Greenville and a short fourteen months later they welcomed their son, Jeffrey Baines of Wilmington. She was the best mother in the world to these two children and devoted hours of cooking, traveling, and making special memories both for and with those she loved. She was an active member at West Edgecombe Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, parent member of the youth council and several other committees. Malda adored her son-in-law, David Harrell and her two grandchildren, Ashleigh Harrell Brown of Georgia and Chandler Harrell of Greenville. Ashleigh and her husband Kyle Brown, gifted Malda with her first great-grandchild, Carson Brown. This brought Malda so much joy!
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 3:30 PM at West Edgecombe Baptist Church, 13821 NC Hwy. 43, North, Rocky Mount, NC 27801, with Dr. Jeff Chappell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of West Edgecombe Baptist Church.
Malda received lots of beautiful flowers in her lifetime so she has requested that memorials be made to the College Scholarship fund at West Edgecombe Baptist Church, 13821 NC Hwy. 43, North, Rocky Mount, NC 27801.

Ms. Malda will always be remembered as best Sunday school teacher for our daughters. She servered along side her husband in church as role model for young couples in 70s. Our prayers are with Jeff and Malda Jo and family. In Christian Sympathy , Martha and Tom Barnes
I didn’t visit with Ms Malda until she became widowed. I had seen her and Mr Buddy walking in the neighborhood. I started attending WEBC in 2012 and became more aquanted with her, after Mr. B passing. I would offend visit with her and enjoyed listening about her family. She showed me many famiy pictures and was so thankful to God for His gift of family. Her only desire was to be a great grandma. Imagine our joy when Our Great God answered our prayers. We rejoiced in knowing that was when we delight ourselves in our Lord, He will grant us the desires if our heart. May she rest in peace and her family treasure their legacy. Loved her dearly n will miss her.

I was only 17 when I first met this beautiful, elegant lady, and even now, 38 years later, she holds a special place in my heart.
