ENFIELD - Willie Ray Keeter, age 74, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018. Born in Halifax County, NC on June 5, 1944, he was the son of the late Henry Clinton Keeter and Emma Elizabeth Hux Keeter. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Clinton Keeter, Jr. and Spooner Keeter.
Willie was a US Air Force veteran where he served as an Aircraft Fuel Systems Mechanic. After the service he retired with the railroad after 28 years of dedicated service. After retirement Willie enjoyed restoring and showing off his old tractor collection. He would often ride them in local parades. Willie's family was most important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them, especially his granddaughters, whom he was so proud. He as a loving father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Willie leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Bill Oakley and wife, Kim, of Seneca, SC; and daughters, Susan Keeter Everette and husband, Grant, of Rocky Mount, and Elizabeth Keeter of Raleigh. He is also survived by granddaughters, Robyn Oakley, Whitney Oakley, Ada Catherine "Nickey" Everette, Emma Everette, and Anna Everette; and sisters-in-law, Maggie Keeter of Enfield and Jeanette Keeter of Swansboro.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Eden United Methodist Church, 2471 Beaverdam Road, Enfield, NC 27823, with Dr. Stephen Bradley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Eden United Methodist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Church Sanctuary.
The family would like to say a special thank you to his special friends, James "Butch" & Kay Ellen, Henry Clay, Mike & Sherry Smith, and Phillip Smith; and also his caregivers, Bonnie & Ruby "Bonnie & Clyde" as Willie called them.

Willie and i became friends when i started Enfield graded school in the 4th grade. We remained good friends through school and our time in the military. He was my best man when Jane and I got married. We didn’t stay close later in life but I’ll always remember our friendship. RIP my friend

I was happy that Willy was able to be at our reunion in June. It was so great to have the time for a good talk. He was so proud of his family and grandchildren. I shall miss is sweet smile. I will hold you close in the days to come.

I have known Willie most of my life. He was a classmate, neighbor, and friend. Willie was truly a friend I will always remember.
The Roanoke River Antique & Engine Club will greatly miss Willie. He was a faithful member and loved this club. Our condolences to all the family and know that we will miss him very much. We are so sorry for the loss of Willie and know that he has gone to Heaven with our Lord.
