Marian Alexander Asbell

January 19, 1928 ~ July 2, 2018

NASHVILLE - Marian Alexander Asbell, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 2, 2018. Born in Edenton, NC on January 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James Alexander and Dora Pritchett Alexander. Marian graduated, Valedictorian from Edenton High School. She taught high school (Algebra and Geometry) in Buxton, NC, before becoming a “full time” homemaker. She set strong standards and encouraged her children that “whatever you do, do your best heartily, as for the Lord and not men” (Colossians 3:23). Respect for our parents was a non-negotiable! She was a “master at cooking” and loved feeding anyone that would sit at her table! When people were hired to come help with things around their home; they would leave with a full “dinner” and many shared with me that she would fry up okra in the garage for themshe was kind. She loved her husband and our Daddy. Daddy passed away on March 26, 2018 and she said that she didnt know how to live without him. Their 71st Anniversary is July 5thour God is an awesome God. Throughout her life, she maintained a simple demeanor, lived the Golden Rule and always had an ear to listen and we soaked up her wisdom. She truly enjoyed fishing with Daddy; loved the beach and her favorite beverage was HOT coffee mate with a splash of coffee. Her faith in God was unwavering and she wanted us to slow down; be true to ourselves; and seize the moment in life. It was God and Family that was her whole being. Marian leaves behind to cherish her memory; a daughter, Kathryn Asbell Keel of Rocky Mount, NC; a son, Richard Allan Asbell and wife Paula of Nashville, NC; and grandchildren, Page Clark Keel, III and wife Donna with great grandchildren, Eva and Claire of Greensboro, NC; Roscoe Griffin Keel and wife Grace with great grandchildren, Hannah, Henry, Lilly and George; Kathryn Keel Sozzi and husband John with great grandchildren, Sally and Maggie. She is also survived by a sister, Vivian Chappell and husband Arthur and sister in law, Helen Asbell Elliott. To all of us, she was affectionately known as Mom, Mama, Marian, Marian Lee and “Mum”.
