James Harold Bryant

Battleboro - James Harold Bryant, age 91, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016. Born in Pitt County, NC on October 8, 1924, he was the son of the late Wiley Bryant and Lula Brown Bryant. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Ginger Ann Bunch; his sister, Margaret Spooner; and his brothers, Virgil Bryant and Coy Bryant. A veteran of World War II, Harold served in the US Army between 1944 and 1946 with the 53rd Armored Infantry Battalion in four campaigns in Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge. He received an EAME Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. After leaving the service, he married Ann, raised four children, owned and operated Bryant's Shell Station in Battleboro from 1964 to 1999. He was a faithful servant to the Battleboro Baptist Church serving in many roles, including Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He also was a member of the Battleboro Volunteer Fire Department, Battleboro Lions Club and held many positions with the Town of Battleboro throughout the years. Harold leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Ann Briley Bryant, his daughter, Joan Inscoe and her husband, Keith, of Wilson; his sons, James Harold Bryant, Jr., and his wife, Reenea, of Greensboro; Larry Douglas Bryant, and his wife, Patricia, of Battleboro. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, D.J., Melissa, Jason, and Eli; and one great-grandson, Caleb; and his sister, Shirley Bryant Bailey and her husband, Troy, of Wilson. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Battleboro Cemetery with Rev. Billy Crabtree officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N.   1. I will miss you Uncle Harold !!! You are so special to me !!! Being born on your 36th birthday always made me feel so special !!! Every year I looked forward to our birthday calls. I know I will be getting that call from my Special Angel in Heaven from now on!!! Aunt Ann, Jimmy, Joan and Larry ….what a wonderful man he was. There is no other like him. I love you all !!   2. Uncle Harold was my favorite uncle. Such a wonderful man full of wisdom, good hugs, a kiss on the jaw, and great stories. Never ever remember being around him that he was not full of life and love for his family and his community! He was just one of those men who radiated with love for others and the love of God.
