Ruth Turner Little

New Bern - Ruth Turner Little, age 92, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Born in Onslow County, NC on March 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Turner and Clare Aman Turner. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James A. Little, Sr., her grandson, Robert H. Little, Jr.; her sisters, Lucy Owens, Annie Ethel Brown, Margaret Brown, Elizabeth Taylor, and her brothers, Jack Turner, Jim Turner, and Edward Turner. Ruth was a woman of great faith and devotion to both her family and her church. She was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church, where she dedicated herself to helping others as a Sunday school teacher and singing in the church choir, a passion of hers that lasted for over 35 years. She was committed to her faith and love for the church as she became a Deacon and Church Elder. She later became a faithful member of West Haven Presbyterian Church. Ruth was a loving wife to her husband James, Sr. until his passing and was by his side as together they raised their children, grand-children, great grand-children and great-great grand-children as family was the center of her life. She also enjoyed sharing her love of gardening with everyone she knew and loved. Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Linda White and her husband, Phil, of New Bern; and her sons, James A. Little Jr. and his wife, Faith, of Rocky Mount; and Robert H. Little, Sr. and his wife, Priscilla, of Rocky Mount. She is survived by her 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Helen Marie Rockwell and Barbara James and her brother, Louis Turner. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM at West Haven Presbyterian Church, 1001 West Haven Blvd., Rocky Mount, with Rev. Sam Codington officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
