Katherine Blue Fountain, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 15, 2015. Katherine, or Kacky as her friends loved to call her, was born in Raeford, North Carolina, on September 18, 1930. She was the middle child of Julian Hubert Blue and Katherine Floyd Blue.
Kacky attended Peace College and when she graduated from Peace in 1950, she was recognized as one of the Outstanding Seniors, was in the May Queen Court, and also sang in the Glee Club. She made her debut in 1950 at the Terpsichorean Club Ball in Raleigh, North Carolina. She also attended UNC-CH and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity. She was actively involved not only in the Glee Club, the Belltones, and the YMCA, but she also was selected to the 1951 Yackety Yack Beauty Court. All of her life, Kacky truly was beautiful both inside and out!
Before Kacky graduated from UNC-CH in 1952 with a B.A. degree in Education, she met the love of her life, Richard Tillman Fountain, Jr. (Dick), on a blind date while at the university they both attended and adored. She married Dick Fountain on November 27, 1953 at the Raeford Presbyterian Church.
Kacky began her teaching career in the Charlotte Public Schools and while her husband was in law school she taught school at the Lenox Baker Hospital for Children in Durham. After her husband finished law school she taught Special Education in the Rocky Mount City School System for a number of years. She was a dedicated teacher, and she loved and cared deeply for her students. Kacky was also a member of the Junior Guild, the Worthwhile Study Club, and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church which she and Dick attended all their married lives. She sang in the choir and had a beautiful soprano voice and was a frequent soloist and would sing at a number of friends weddings.
Kacky enjoyed her trips with her husband visiting many countries in Europe, Scandinavia and the Far East. She also enjoyed cruising in the Caribbean with friends and visiting many of the Islands. Most of all, she enjoyed the time she spent with her family and grandchildren at Atlantic Beach.
Though Kacky accomplished so much and blessed so many people in countless ways, she would probably say her greatest accomplishment surely would be her two children: Katherine Fountain Belk and Richard Tillman Fountain, III. They would tell you that having such a godly, loving, kind, compassionate, strong, yet gentle mother was one of the greatest blessings of their lives. She made every holiday special and full of love, filled their home with the smells of delicious cooking, and constantly showered her family with love.
Most importantly, Kacky loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart, and she loved Gods Word. She was constantly memorizing Bible verses and praying those verses over those she loved. Though she was a humble, gentle woman, Kacky was nonetheless a powerful prayer warrior, and only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact all her many years of faithful praying have had on her family, her friends, and the world at large. “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16)
Kacky is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard Tillman Fountain, Jr. of Rocky Mount; daughter, Katherine Fountain Belk and son-in-law, Richard Marion Belk, of Rocky Mount; and son, Richard Tillman Fountain, III and wife, Emily Preyer Fountain of Raleigh; grandchildren, Mary Norris Fountain Tilmes and husband, Matthew Ryan Tilmes of Charlotte, Richard Tillman Fountain IV of Charlotte, Jane Katherine Fountain of Raleigh, Preyer Harris Fountain of Raleigh, and Peter Richardson Fountain, of Raleigh; her sister-in-law, Ann Fountain Dill and husband Thomas G. Dill and her sister-in-law, Margaret Fountain Paylor and also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Kacky is predeceased by her parents, Katherine Floyd Blue and Julian Hubert Blue, her sister, Shirley Blue Whitaker; her brother, Julian H. Blue, Jr., and her nephew, Brian Cameron Whitaker; her sister-in-law Susan Fountain Thurston and husband Dr. Thomas G. Thurston; and brother-in-law John H. Paylor, Jr.
A memorial service to celebrate Kackys life and give witness to her faith in Jesus Christ will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 153 North Church Street, Rocky Mount, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015. Rev. Chris Berardi and Rev. Mary Kathleen Duncan will be officiating. Immediately after the service visitation will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall.
We who had the privilege of loving Kacky rejoice in knowing that even now she is hearing the commendation of her Lord and Savior telling her, “Well done, my good and faithful daughter, Kacky. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master.” (Mt.25:21)
During the latter part of her life she suffered with COPD and the family would like to thank Dr. Donald Bales, Nash General Hospital and Autumn Care of Nash and Hospice Care of Nash General Hospital for the excellent care she received.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount, N.C. or a favorite charity.

Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
Mrs. Fountain was my first grade teacher in 1956. She has always had a special place in my heart because as a left-handed student she taught me to angle my paper with the bottom pointed to my left. This was unusual at that time, and none of my other friends who were also lefties did it. As a result, I do not have to curve my hand and write with my hand above the pen. Now, as a teacher, I make sure my left-handed students follow this. I loved being in her class, and am thankful that she gave me such a positive start to my schooling. I’m so happy to read that she had such a beautiful life. Kathy Withers McCord Durham Academy

Dick, sending love and sympathy. So sad to hear of your loss. I remember so long ago when you came back home with that beautiful bride. Know our love and prayers are with you. Marjorie and Fred Parker
To the family of Miss Kathy, I just wanted to tell you what a joy it was meeting her and all of you and working with you all on her care. She always made my day with her sweet smile and of course always mistaking me with Katherine. I would always tell her I knew that big smile was not for me but I would take it anyway! ) You will all be missed and you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Please come back and visit us! Wendy Davis
