Battleboro - Ellen Joann Ward Parks, age 84, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Born in Nash County on May 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Haverson Ward and Jean Hamm Ward. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Coward Harris and her sister, Betty Ward.
Joann devoted her life to her husband and her children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Whenever she spoke of her family, one could see the smile on her face and know how proud she was of each of them.
Joann leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Alton Earl Parks, her daughter, Linda Coward Davis and her husband, Kenneth; her daughter Ann Coward Sherrill and her husband Gene; her daughter, Sandra Coward Johnson and her husband, Wayne; her son, Stacy Michael Parks, and her son, Bradford Ward Parks and his wife, Pamela. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; her brother, Jimmy Ward and his wife, Joan; and her brother Raymond Ward and his wife, Cynthia.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 11:00am at Battleboro United Methodist Church, 229 E. Battleboro Avenue, Battleboro, NC with Parker Philips and Patrick Sinclair officiating. Committal will follow at Battleboro Cemetery, 408 W. Battleboro Road, Battleboro, NC. Visitation with the family will be Monday, August 24, 2015, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 2479 Hurt Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or the Alzhemers of North Carolina, 1305 Navoho Drive, Raleigh, NC 27609.
