Bertha Joyce Keel Manning, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 8, 2014. Born in Craven County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Jack Keel and Maggie Anderson Keel. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Keel Hill and her brother, Sherwood Keel.
Bertha was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, James Manning of Rocky Mount, NC. Bertha is also survived by her daughter, Hazel Tompkins of Rocky Mount, NC; her sons, Thomas Tompkins and his wife, Shirley of Rocky Mount, NC and Allen Tompkins of Rocky Mount, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren: John-Thomas, Ashley, Daniel, and James, and one great-grandchild, Christopher.
A funeral service to remember Bertha will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2:30pm at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.
