Peggy Griffin Pullen Porter

February 17, 1932 ~ January 1, 2021

ROCKY MOUNT - Peggy Griffin Pullen Porter, age 88, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC on February 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lee Griffin and Mary Allice Reid Griffin of Rocky Mount. She was also preceded in death by her first husband of 53 years, Charles Pullen; and her second husband of six years, Oscar Porter. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church and was involved in Sunday School, Circle, and Senior Adult Choir. She introduced The Doll Ministry at First Baptist. Dolls are sent to the mission field to distribute to needy children. She was also a member of Rocky Mount Junior Guild. As a homemaker, she loved working in her yard, sharing her garden flowers, and making cakes for friends in need. Peggy is survived by her sister, Elva Griffin Hux; her two daughters, Cathryn "Cathy" Berry and husband, Mike, of Rocky Mount and Renee Neiner and husband, Mike, of Suwanee, GA; her three grandchildren, Brandon Berry, Natalie Lewis and husband, Jim, and Dr. John Neiner and wife, Ami; and seven great-grandchildren. Due to COVID-19, a Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Pineview Cemetery. In her last five years, she was a resident of Spring Arbor of Rocky Mount. The family has deep appreciation for the love and care she received from the staff and residents. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to Chelsey Smith, PA with Doctors Making House Calls and Dr. Jeffrey Silver, Pulmonologist, of Tarboro. We would also like to thank Josephine Joyner for the love and care she provided for many years to the Pullen/Porter family. The family is so thankful for the care of Nash UNC Health Care Systems Hospice & Palliative Care, Dr. Douglas Boyette, M.D., and the staff of Spring Arbor of Rocky Mount. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Peggy's memory to First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or Nash UNC Health Care Systems Hospice & Palliative Care, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
