Ennis Lucas Edwards

ROCKY MOUNT - Ennis Lucas Edwards, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Born in Sampson County, NC on July 10, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Alford "June" Lucas and Flora Faircloth Lucas. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Bonnie Warren, Sallie Ray Coats, brother W. A. Lucas and great grandson Lawson Wells Atkins. Ennis is survived by her husband of 61 years, Arthur "Randolph" Edwards; her son, Chuck Edwards (Kim); and her daughter, Kim Garner (Roy); grandchildren Savana Atkins (Brandon), Sydnie Edwards, Bridget Garner, Emily Garner, Tyler Garner, Kaylee Garner, Maylee Garner; great grandson Layton Grey Atkins and a lot of "grand dogs" and "great grand dogs". Ennis left a great legacy and a lifetime of memories for her family to treasure. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and loyal friend. She was a dedicated member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church for over 50 years. Ennis was a graduate of Parkview Nursing School in 1958. She was a dedicated Registered Nurse with her career spanning 36 years. It included being an Instructor at Parkview Nursing School, a Nursing Instructor at Nash Technical Institute and she retired after managing the fifth floor for 20 years at Nash General Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held on December 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Dr. Robin Fisher officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunset Avenue Baptist Church in Ennis' memory or Park View Nurses Alumni Scholarship Fund, 522 N. Old Carriage Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.   5. A fine lady; a wonderful nurse, manager, and mentor. I worked beside her on 5th Floor at Nash General Hospital for 5 years and learned a lot about being a good manager from her. I valued her friendship as well. She will be missed.

  11. Randolph, Jim and I are so sorry to hear of Ennis’ passing. She was such a beautiful and sweet person. You and Ennis made such a nice couple and we always enjoyed the times we visited together. Our prayers are with you and your family.

  12. Ennis was the first health care manager I ever worked for. Nash General 5th floor. I was a CNA. I absolutely loved her. She was stern but fair and oh that southern drawl. I went to grade school and high school with her daughter Kim. I’m truly sorry to hear of her passing. The family is in my thoughts and prayers.

She was the best neighbor to our Grady Family during our years living in Rocky Mount. I pray for comfort and peace in the days ahead.
