I was Working with his Aunt Bea at the time and will never forget that day. I was only 21 at the time. Your family will live in our hearts forever. Rachel Lewis Cary ,NC

  5. Dear Johnson family, I have worn my POW bra let with Darrell’s name for as long as I can remember. As a Marine, I felt that if I took it off, his service and scrafice would be lost in time. When I was 12, I remember him being listed as missing. That event affected my heart then and to this day. May God bless Mrs. Johnson and her family. She was an inspiration to all people! GySgt Ray Beasley USMC Ret.

  6. Johnson Family, I am very sad to hear of Mrs. Johnson’s passing. I met her at the Veteran’s Memorial a few years ago and she was a very sweet lady. As a mother, I have thought of her often and wondered how she was able to go from day to day without knowing where her son was. I can’t begin to imagine what she felt every single day. I do believe she has been reunited with him in heaven and they are rejoicing together as they have finally found one another again. God bless all of you during this sad time and know you are being thought of and prayers are being said for the family.

  7. My message is to the family of Mildred Johnson. I was in high school with Darrell who was one yr behind me. Both our fathers worked for the railroad so we were friends . I was in Nam in 68 when he was reported MIA. Every month, here in Raleigh, we, as members of the NC VietNam Veterans read the names of all our MIAs here in NC. I try and be the one to read Darrells name. So my condolences to MIldreds Family and all her work with the MIA charities Val Price RMSHS 1964 Vietnam vet 1967-1968

  8. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. May God grant you peace as you remember the good times. She was a fighter and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Her sunset on earth was a sunrise in Heaven. We love you!

  9. I went through school with her son. I will always remember what a beautiful voice he had when we were in the choir in grammar school. She is one of my heroes because of her untiring efforts to help so many people around the country. Every time I rode by the memorial near City Lake I have thought of him. Now I will think of both of them. Joy Lawson Andrews

  10. God gives power to the faint & the weary, & to those who have no strength. He will increase. Isa. 4029 Be encouraged, God knows exactly what each of you need & will supply your every need. What a wonderful hope.
