Odes Warren Newton

Odes Warren Newton, 90, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 15, 2014. He was born July 2, 1923 in Casar, NC. He was the son of the late William Nolan and Zulie Wall Newton. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served in both WWII and the Korean War. He worked with Bordens Ice Cream Co. for over 20 years before starting his own business, Newton Wholesale, selling fishing tackle. He was an avid fresh water fisherman and he loved talking to people and sharing fishing stories. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Lambert Newton; brothers, Cletus Newton and Malon Newton; and his sisters, Viller Richards, Mittie Taylor and Viola Vinay. He is survived by his daughters; Martha Newton Eatmon and husband, Alan of Raleigh, and Patricia Newton DeGruchy and husband, Phil (Pete) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Sarah DeGruchy, Thomas DeGruchy, and Wade Eatmon; brother Ernest Newton; sister Fannie Newton Williams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to his very special caregivers and friends for their love and devotion. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Pastor Leonard Rex officiating. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt.
