Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
I found out a couple of hours ago when Karen called. You know I am so, so sorry. She took such good care of me when I was sick and did so much for Christina’s wedding because she knew I couldn’t. Loved to go dancing with her and now she’s an angel dancing above me that will always be with me. Love you Ruby, SO MUCH! Pam Pate

Angi, so sorry for your loss. My sympathies to your family. Joan Lucas
Her Laugh. I hear it now and will love her always.
Peppers!! Aunt Ruby and Grandma Peace would grow my peppers and always kept me stocked with them. Just a few weeks ago my brother found them for me since I have been wanting them so bad. I am going to miss you so much Aunt Ruby!! Please tell my dad hello and everyone else we love that celebrated when you arrived. Til I see you again, you will be in my heart! Xoxo
I didn’t get see Ruby often, but Charlie and I kept up with all her moving’s around. We would speak by phone and always got updates on her gardening and landscaping projects. Ruby’s goal was always to be the prettiest yard on the block (and I believe she won that honor for many years). The funniest memory my children and I have with her is when her niece (my youngest, Brenda) went to her home in Rocky Mt. just before Charlie passed away and Brenda fell and left her butt print in the snow in the yard. The next day, we were following Ruby to her house from the hospital and got lost (ended up following the wrong car) and we knew the street, but couldn’t remember the house number (this was prior to GPS) so we looked at each house to see if any looked familiar and found it because of Brenda’s butt print in the snow. We had a good laugh about that and still laughed about it years later.
My most memorable moment was when I went to Ruby and ask her to serve on a selection committee for Atlantic Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame. From that point forward she has been a true inspiration to me and Barbara and a beloved friend.
I am so glad I got to visit Ruby on the 4th to see her smile, she will be missed by many. Ruby was one of the fabulous five, a group of us girls that we called ourselves. Rest in Peace

In 1958 I married Jimmy’s brother Bob and we moved to NC soon after I meet Ruby and we became good friends, later she married Jimmy and we went different directions. We managed to stay in touch over the years and when ever we visited Rocky Mount we spent time with her and Jimmy, Ruby will be greatly missed, if at all possible my plans are to be at her burial. Unable to be there now as my husband lost his last brother yesterday also. Rest in Peace Ruby until we meet again.
We are going to miss our thoughtful and caring neighbor and friend.
Jimmy, Angi, Vance, we are so sorry to hear about Ruby. Over the years, I have missed seeing all of you and always remember the good times we had together. When I think of you all, I remember that picture of us when we were in Germany when us kiddos were so small and it makes me smile. The years have really passed so quickly. I know there is nothing I can say to take away your pain, but I pray that God will be near you, comfort you and eventually heal you broken heart. I know your pain as my dad passed away 21 years ago to the day the Ruby did. Ruby has touched many lives with her smile and love of life and she will be missed by many. All of us will not make it there tonight as we are all recovering from various illnesses. Please let us know where Ruby is buried in Arlington and I will be sure to visit her as I do Bobby V. and my dad who is also there. Much love, Kirby, Gwen & Kelsey Canada & Glenda Canada Norton.
I just found out that Ruby has gone from a family friend. I am so glad that I got to talk to her 2 weeks ago but was concerned when I didn’t hear back from her-thank you for calling me. I watched the tribute & it was so good to see her-I haven’t seen her in 14 years since I left NC-but she was always in my mind. She introduced me to the world of Shaggers & the music. She sent me CDs on my birthday. Whenever I am sad that music really picks me up & so now I’ll go & play them & reread all her emails to me. She was bigger than life-she filled up the room. I loved her sense of humor & her laugh & her common sense way of looking at things. I never met Angie or Vance but heard all about them throughout the years we emailed each other. I am sure this is a big loss in their life & am sorry for that. Jim you look just as I remember you in those pictures. Take care of yourself for Ruby’s sake. She was concerned about you the last time we talked. Ruby will be missed by many I am sure. Maybe she is dancing now.
Ruby was a beautiful lady, inside and out. My prayers and love go out to all of her family. God bless you and help you through this difficult time With love, Jacquelynn and Randy.
Jim—Diane and I are so sad to hear about Ruby. She was such a special person and always so generous, smart , and giving. My two borthers and I had d a special place in our hearts for her. She was a very special lady, one of a kind, and every time there is a shag song, I will remember that as a 12 year old, and she was 16; she woudl dance with me in the Idle Hour in AB to Joe Turner. To a 12 year old that was the ultimate joy. She was a mentor to many and had such a wonderful outlook. I know she is dancing in heven now and waiting with her fishing pole. Our prayers are with you and your family during this time. Herbert Bailey.
JIM , I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS . MAY RUBY REST IN PEACE NOW , AND PAIN FREE RICHARD LANE
